In 1899, King&#8217;s established the <strong>UK&#8217;s first department of childhood diseases<\/strong> headed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bshpch.com\/20th-21st-centuries.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dr George Frederic Still<\/a> (1868-1941). He was appointed by King&#8217;s College as the first Professor of Paediatrics in England. The <strong>history of research into liver disease begins at King\u2019s<\/strong> with the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/lsm\/research\/divisions\/timb\/about\/history.aspx#Hepatology\" target=\"_blank\">George Budd<\/a> (1808-1882). In 1840, he was appointed Professor of Medicine at King\u2019s College London, and made a special study of liver diseases producing one of the earliest books on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Today King&#8217;s College Hospital is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in London, with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, haemato-oncology and foetal medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Patients come to King\u2019s from all over the world for the skill and expertise of the clinical teams and the hospital\u2019s reputation as a pioneer in medical research.
